Richard Otto Lohsandt, 83, of Wellington, MO., peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.
Richard was born January 24, 1940, during a snowstorm, on his grandparents’ farm southeast of Napoleon, MO., to Raymond Charles Lohsandt and Lillian Olinda Beckman. Richard attended Harris School in rural Wellington, MO. until the 8th grade and later attended Lexington High School to participate in agriculture classes and FFA. In 1957, at the age of 17, he graduated from Lexington High School and completed Auctioneer School some time later. Richard was united in marriage to Carol June (Homfeld) of Lexington, MO., on June 2, 1963.
At a young age, Richard and his parents moved to a farm south of Santa Fe Trail and Waterloo Road where he grew up farming. In November 1958, Richard began working for Paul Lang Machine Shop in Wellington, MO. until its closure in 1959. Having been unemployed for only two days, Richard began the remainder of his career as a Tool & Die Maker / Machinist at Fike Metal Products, in Blue Springs, MO. He continued his career working for several machine shop companies until his eventual retirement from Harmon Electronics / General Electric. Alongside his professional career, Richard served as the City Marshall for Napoleon, MO., in the 1970’s, played guitar and sang gospel music with the Cousins Five, served on numerous committees and boards at St. Paul’s Church, drove semi-trucks for Levasy Elevator and farmed alongside other area farmers. What Richard enjoyed the most was farming with his growing family, on the family farm, he and Carol purchased in 1980.
Richard is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol of the home; son James (Diane) Lohsandt of Wellington, MO., daughter Linda (Bob) Florence of Lexington, MO., son Charles Lohsandt of Sioux Falls, SD., and daughter Sandra (Devin) Lundquist, Odessa, MO.; seven grandchildren, Dr. Dalton (Kelly) Lohsandt, Mikayla Lohsandt, Bethanie Florence, Brenton Florence, Austin Lohsandt, Konnar Lundquist, Elyssa Lundquist; one great grandchild, Reagan Lohsandt; one brother Allen (Ruth) Lohsandt and one sister, Janis Winkler.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lillian Lohsandt and brother-in-law, Randall Winkler.
Living a full life, Richard enjoyed the farm life, hunting, camping with friends, laughing, family reunions and gatherings, a full house of visiting kids, grandkids and a great granddaughter and attending his grandkids’ sporting events.
